Custer State Park, Custer, S.D., Oct. 10 & 11, 2012: Custer State Park in the Black Hills encompasses 71,000 acres. A herd of 1,300 bison roams freely throughout the park, sometimes stopping traffic along the 18-mile Wildlife Loop Road. We camped in a cabin in Custer for one night and decided to take the Wildlife Loop on our way to the Badlands the next morning. Seeing so much wildlife was an awesome way to start the day. I have a newfound love for bison. Those suckers can weigh up to 2,000 pounds!
