Badlands National Park, South Dakota

Badlands, S.D., Oct. 9, 2012: Located east of Rapid City, the Badlands are made up of geologic deposits that contain one of the world’s richest fossil beds. The park’s 244,000 acres protect an expanse of mixed-grass prairie where bison, bighorn sheep, prairie dogs, and black-footed ferrets live. We drove through miles and miles of flat nothingness until we finally entered the park. What a view.
